"MURDER AT MEIGS FIELD"
WILL RUN FOR FOUR PERFORMANCE AT
DOWNTOWN CHICAGO
|
 |
 |
"Murder at Meigs Field," a
new play by
Paul Warshauer, will have a limited run at the
historic Tavern Club atop 333 N. Michigan Avenue in Chicago, IL
on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 pm from June 30 – July 8,
2006. Tickets for the dinner and a show are on sale now for
$75.00 per person. Seating is limited to 96 persons per night.
Reservations are a must by calling the Tavern Club at
312-263-1166.
The original audience participation Murder Mystery had its world
premiere at the Athenaeum Theatre in February, 2006.
The production is presented by The historic Tavern Club (www.thetavernclub.com)
Murders R Us, (www.murdersrus.com)
and has been endorsed by the Friends of Meigs Field, (www.friendsofmeigs.org)
The storyline also includes a plan to maintain a herd of bison
on Northerly Island, (www.bisonarium.com).
The cast features 12 Chicago actors in what will prove to be a
lively evening of interactive theatre and political fun. The
audience will watch several scenes, hear about the murder, cross
examine the suspects and eventually vote for who they think
"done the deed." A different murderer and victim have been
created for all four performances.
Arlene Kahn and Ken Gayton are the associate producers and
familiar faces will populate the stage as characters including
Chicago favorites from Tony and Tina's Wedding, The Second City
and Improv Olympic. Mr. Warshauer will act as host and emcee.
Mr. Warshauer has written and directed over 150 of these murder
mystery plays from Alaska to Florida. He says that he "loves
Chicago and if you can't poke fun at your own town, you should
live in Oregon!"
Ironically he created the formula
for these interactive murder mysteries at an Italian Restaurant
in Klamath Falls, Oregon. But this murder, he says, "is all for
fun. The audience gets to listen to clues, wander around the
theatre, cross-examine the suspects, then vote for who they
think ‘dunnit!' Murder weapons are everywhere so the audience
must sort out the red herrings from the real thing." |

The story line follows the actions of Mayor Warren J. Weekly who
orders an old downtown airport closed due to "security
concerns." He makes a deal with the "Outfit" to put up a large
casino in its place.
At midnight the Mayor orders G Gordon Piddley, his loyal Chief
of Staff, to "supervise the remodeling project." Piddley orders
trucks out on the tarmac. The union boys love their work so they
play a little game of tick- tack-toe with Xs and Os.
The Mayor of the great city has also ordered his Chief of Staff
to get rid of his last obstacle: Move Old Lady Gladys Northerly
and her idiot grandson (Norton) off of her quaint cabin at the
end of Northerly Island. The Mayor thinks it will be a cakewalk
but the old lady is tougher than he thinks. Her nephew appears
to be an idiot, but can he be bought? He exercises every day by
"wrestling with the buffalos."
Dom De Dahmdan, from Outfit Development Inc. is the contractor
hired by Mayor Weakley to develop the property has invested a
great deal of his own money and political capital but little
does he know that his own assistant might sell him out!
The rabid environmentalists are led by media darling Tray Huger.
He sees a bison preserve on the property and he has ramped up to
high gear to fight this injustice, but his attorney girlfriend,
Barbara Bambshayle is becoming suspicious of Tray's
eco-terrorist ways .
Wilma Weekley, the Mayor's wife is undecided about Northerly
Island and has called in her personal clairvoyant, Madame
Babushka to advise her about building a magnificent park.
The Chamber of Commerce does not want a park nor do they really
want a casino but what does the Queen of fashion, our "Society
Dame" want? She wants to raise bison and buffalo on Northerly
Island and use the pelts, too? This has twisted her poor husband
into a pretzel. Could he snap? The battle lines have been drawn
and its time for a, "Murder at Meigs Field!"
The Tavern Club is located on the corner of Michigan Ave and
Wacker Drive and has some of the most breathtaking views in the
city.
